Sports Illustrated Olympic Athlete of the Century!

Right on Track
Nine-time Olympic Gold Medalist Carl Lewis sets his course with FreeLife™

A dedicated FreeLife product customer, during FreeLife’s 1997 convention in Dallas, Carl Lewis (second from left) spent some time with (from left) CEO Ray Faltinsky, Dr. Earl Mindell and President Kevin Fournier.

Not content simply to bask in the glory of games gone by, nine-time Olympic Gold Medalist Carl Lewis has set his sights on new goals. To maintain a close relationship with sports, he’s signed a long-term deal with Nike Sports Entertainment. He’s using his college major in radio and TV to study acting with a coach. He’s also endorsed a two-wheel-drive bicycle, as well as two clothing lines. And to round out his business ventures, Carl is building a FreeLife organization.

Word-of-Mouth
Carl was introduced to FreeLife in 1996 by his massage therapist, John Rodriguez. John told Carl about his experience with FreeLife and its products, but the athlete didn’t pay much attention since he is approached by companies all the time. What did peak his interest, however, was the fact that Dr. Earl Mindell has an exclusive relationship with FreeLife. “I knew he was an authority on vitamins and minerals, and that he had a solid understanding of a healthy diet,” Carl said. “When I heard how much Dr. Mindell spoke of the benefits of soy, that impressed me even more.”

The fact that some of FreeLife’s products are soy-based is important to Carl, who became a vegetarian in 1990. Since then, he’s been a believer in the ability of soy products to maintain the body’s protein levels in the absence of red meat. He also feels it simply is a healthier way of living. “The Japanese have had a soy-based diet for many years,” he noted. “and they seem to live longer, healthier lives.”

It appears to have worked, for Carl stresses that he’s only gotten better since he switched to soy. “All of my lifetime best performances came after two events: first, after I changed my diet, which I did at 29; and second, after I turned 30,” he said.

Carl began taking FreeLife products because he said they matched the philosophy of health and wellness that he had been living. He took them during the entire 1996 Olympic season, where he came away with his ninth gold medal in the long jump. At one point during the trials he ran out of his FreeLife supplements, so he had them shipped via overnight mail. “As a professional athlete, my very livelihood depended upon being in the very best physical health possible,” he said. “That’s why I chose to use a cutting-edge, anti-aging and wellness product line developed by Dr. Earl Mindell.”

Even though Carl doesn’t compete anymore, his health and well-being are important to him. “I still take FreeLife exclusively to this day—every day,” he said.Carl feels so comfortable with the products that he doesn’t hesitate to recommend them to former teammates and other friends who are athletes. In fact, he said, some of them use FreeLife products exclusively as well.

He also feels they have a tremendous benefit for non-athletes. “FreeLife’s products definitely can contribute to someone’s overall well-being,” he said. “They provide the benefits of a soy-based diet, and they contribute to overall body health.”

Business Building
Like any other Marketing Executive, Carl looks for ways to build his business—so he attended FreeLife’s second annual convention in Dallas in 1997. “So many times you hear about situations or people and their feelings and beliefs, but when you can sit there and communicate with them directly, it changes your perspective totally,” he commented. “You can really see the commitment FreeLife Marketing Executives have. There’s no question it enhanced my business, and I really enjoyed meeting the people there.”

As for his celebrity status in relation to his FreeLife business, sometimes he finds that people treat him as just another athlete trying to push a product. “But there’s a far larger group of people who see that I know about vitamins, proper diet, training, exercising, fitness, working hard and recovering,” he noted. “I’m even familiar with lifestyle issues. Training isn’t just about working out and being in shape. Often, I’ve had to travel long distances and get up early the next day to compete. I still do a lot of traveling for speaking engagements and other appearances. It can be very hectic. It’s just like people who are feeling tired from work or who don’t feel they can make it through to the end of the week. I try to use my experience to help people handle their everyday lives, and to show them how the products can do that as well. I can tell them these things because I bring more to the table than someone who just ran fast on the track.”

With all that’s going on in his life, Carl expects to be with FreeLife well into the future. “I feel comfortable with my relationship with the company,” he said. “I think FreeLife will do very well.”

Cyclist David Brinton Puts His FreeLife™ Pedal to the Medal

FreeLife Marketing Executive David Brinton is a world-class athlete who knows the value of FreeLife products.

David Brinton knows the value of taking quality nutritional products. As a cyclist who won gold and silver medals in the Pan-American games in 1987 as well as two Olympic trials in 1988, David used nutritional supplements to try to enhance his performance. Much of that information he got from Dr. Earl Mindell’s best-selling nutrition book, The Vitamin Bible, which he kept in his room at the Olympic Training Center while training for the 1988 Olympics.

But it wasn’t until David discovered network marketing that he fully realized the benefit of taking nutritional supplements to enhance performance—and overall body health. Although he stopped competing in 1990 to pursue other business opportunities, David says he still challenges himself physically. “I was a firm believer back when I was competing but nowhere near the believer I am now that nutritional supplementation can greatly enhance your physical ability, recovery and endurance, which will make you a better athlete.”

David also noticed that his immune system—which tends to be weakened with vigorous training—became stronger than ever once he started taking FreeLife products. When asked if he believes having FreeLife products back when he was competing would have helped heighten his performance, David responded: “I have absolutely no doubt that they would have helped me in 1988. The products I purchased in grocery and drug stores while I was competing helped to a limited extent, and there were some performance gains. But I had a substantial physical gain when I started taking FreeLife products.”

The key to the effectiveness of the products, David believes, is their bioavailability. “The body is able to assimilate a high level of the products,” he said. “And the fact that all of the products are synergistically blended by Dr. Mindell is important as well.”

Several years of network marketing experience—not all of which was positive—convinced David to join FreeLife in January 1997. He chose to become a full-time Marketing Executive with the company for several reasons. First, “I wanted to become self-sufficient financially,” David said. “I enjoyed the residual income that being an athlete provided—especially since it came from doing something I loved.” David sees network marketing as offering the same opportunity, or the absolute time freedom to pursue what your heart desires without worrying about how to support yourself.

Second, David joined FreeLife because he feels he’s helping other people in the process. “It’s important for me to earn a living by helping to impact others in a positive way,” he stressed. Combined with the health-improving benefits of the products themselves, David feels he’s found an “ideal marriage” in FreeLife between network marketing and top-quality nutritional products.

Finally, David chose FreeLife because of its credibility. “Knowing Dr. Mindell is involved with the company gave it credibility right away,” David said. His belief in the company grew even more when he saw the dedication, compassion and professionalism of CEO Ray Faltinsky and President Kevin Fournier. “I said right from the start that I finally found a home in FreeLife,” David said. “It’s a wonderful thing to be in the right place at the right time.”
